The new public-private partnership will strengthen cooperation between stakeholders and dialogue across the Blue Denmark to create growth and promote Denmark’s position as a green shipping nation. 

International shipping is an important industry, facilitating global trade and transporting people around the world. At the same time, it produces large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions – comparable in scale to industrialized nations such as Germany or Japan - and is a significant source of air pollution. Urgent action is required to reduce emissions in a sustainable manner.

Denmark prides itself on a position of international leadership within renewable energy, with a sustainable value chain that stretches from producing green electricity, with e.g. wind turbines or bio-energy, to storing and distributing it. And more is to come, as Denmark recently co-signed one of the most ambitious declaration on renewable energy ever at the North Sea Summit in Esbjerg.

Danish green, maritime technologies and solutions are developed through close cooperation and partnerships between our leading shipping companies, equipment manufacturers, shipyards, knowledge institutions and public agencies. Constantly seeking common interests and bringing together unique knowledge this way of cooperating has contributed to strong Danish positions e.g. within areas of environment, climate and several other areas. ShippingLab and Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping shows how companies can work together to reduce carbon emissions from global shipping. By being part of either institution, companies within the maritime industry can collaborate on finding the future of green shipping.
