New National Quantum Strategy Part 2 provides significant boost to the Danish Quantum Ecosystem

The Danish government has launched the national quantum strategy part 2. The strategy will support the emerging Danish quantum ecosystem through  commercialization, security and international partnerships. With initiatives such as Quantum House Denmark and a new European Quantum Fund, the strategy makes the unique quantum ecosystem in Denmark even more attractive to foreign companies.

When

Earlier this year, the Danish government launched the first part of the National Quantum Strategy with the intention of prioritizing 1 billion Danish kroner on quantum research and innovation. This week the government followed up with the second part of the strategy that focuses on strengthening the emerging Danish quantum ecosystem by supporting the development, commercialization and application of quantum technology in Denmark for the benefit of society, economy, security and international cooperation.

Key initiatives in the Quantum strategy part 2

A flagship initiative is Quantum House Denmark (QHD), which will be a physical hub where quantum companies can be co-located close to the research community at the University of Copenhagen. As part of QHD, the government is collaborating with the Novo Nordisk Foundation to establish test facilities. In addition, the government is establishing a European quantum fund within the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark that will support Quantum House Denmark and the NATO DIANA Deep Tech Lab - Quantum by addressing the need for patient long-term capital for quantum technology development. Over time, the intention is for the fund to mobilize private institutional capital equivalent to a combined fund in the billions.

Other key initiatives include increased focus on safeguarding Denmark’s critical infrastructure from potential challenges arising from quantum technology and enhanced guidance on security for the quantum ecosystem. International cooperation is also a key priority and the government will establish an international quantum hub with the aim of developing international quantum partnerships. This also comes with increased international presence and a strategic focus on attracting foreign companies that can bring knowledge, talent and capital to the quantum ecosystem in Denmark.

With the strategy, Denmark emphasizes the ambition to uphold its quantum legacy and becoming one of the preferred locations for quantum technology development globally.
