Linde Gas’ Head of Green Hydrogen Sales in Denmark, Ulrik Nielsen, says that the investment could easily amount to EUR 100 million. This sum will only cover the facility itself, since the further plan is to include conversion of the hydrogen to green ammonia as another manifestation of the X in Power-to-X (PtX). The source of the plant’s electricity is not determined yet, just as no investment decision has been made on who will provide the electrolyzer. The port of Aabenraa has one of the Baltic Sea’s deepest ports, and an attractive location close to Europe’s third-largest diesel hub in Padborg at the E45 highway and the Danish borders to Germany.

According to Linde Gas’ schedule, the plan is set to find collaboration partners within two years the latest, which can use the green hydrogen for productions of ammonia or methanol. The firm strives to use its position as an international conglomerate to look for partners around the world, as there is still a shortage of companies in Denmark that are venturing into ammonia production from hydrogen.

In the process of finding new partners, Invest in Denmark will actively assist with finding a well-fitted partner by giving advice on general and sector-specific framework conditions in Denmark. The new Danish PtX strategy will play a vital role in the development and goals of establishing PtX projects in Denmark going forward. The strategy will include the framework conditions, the hydrogen pipe infrastructure, along with incentives and subsides. The government will announce its proposals of the PtX strategy the 15th of December 2021.
