Meet Invest in Denmark at one of Europe’s largest data centre and cloud conferences in Europe,
Datacloud Europe, to explore what makes Denmark an ideal location for data centres.
In recent years, several of the world’s large tech companies have decided to establish large data centres in Denmark due to the attractive framework conditions and the excellent opportunities to pursue cutting-edge green solutions.
In March 2015, Apple announced its plans to build one of the world’s largest data centres in Viborg. Apple has subsequently in July 2017 announced that it has further begun the construction of a second large data centre near Aabenraa.
In the meantime, Facebook announced in January 2017 that it is working on a data centre near Odense, just as Google has confirmed that it has acquired land to be able to construct a data centre near Fredericia.
The reasons for choosing Denmark as the location for a data centre is among others:
- Denmark has one of Europe’s most reliable power grids with 99.997 pct. power grid uptime. Only Luxembourg has a higher power grid uptime
- The electricity costs in Denmark are below the EU28 average. Towards 2022, the electricity costs in Denmark will be further reduced due to electricity tax reductions.
- Today there is 64 pct. renewable energy in the power mix. By 2020 it will be 80 pct. Green certificates for 100 pct. renewable power are available.
