ECOncrete is expanding its operations and setting up an office in Denmark to cover the Nordics. ECOncrete is an innovative company providing nature-inclusive solutions for marine construction that enhance biodiversity. By supporting the growth of diverse marine life on concrete, infrastructure projects can meet both climate action as well as business and engineering goals.

When

ECOncrete works with all types of marine construction projects including offshore wind parks and any subsea infrastructure that uses concrete such as ports, bridges, subsea cables, coastal protection and waterfronts.

ECOncrete’s unique technology can be seamlessly integrated into local supply chains in all types of marine infrastructure projects to offset the negative impact of underwater concrete structures.

The technology has been applied worldwide and across nine seas. ECOncrete has led projects collaborating with DTU Copenhagen, Danish startups and industry leaders.

We are pleased to have set up operations in Denmark to answer market demand and develop the emerging projects in the region, and are keen to implement and further develop our marine construction solutions that restore and enhance marine biodiversity with local partners.

Invest in Denmark helped ECOncrete explore opportunities in Denmark facilitating introductions to key collaboration partners and stakeholders including Business Esbjerg, Port of Esbjerg, Green Power Denmark, the Ocean Institute and Kongstein as well as key service providers such law firms to help them set up their legal entity in Denmark.

Invest in Denmark also helped ECOncrete by providing insights about the offshore wind industry, ports as well as cable and scour protection companies in Denmark and an overview of relevant engineering consultancy companies supporting these projects.

We are delighted to welcome ECOncrete to Denmark. ECOncrete offers a real innovative solution to prevent and mitigate negative impact on marine biodiversity. It’s an opportunity to rethink our approach to marine construction, which will become increasingly important as we continue to build out coastal protection, ports and offshore infrastructure.

Biodiversity is an area of both growing focus and opportunity in Denmark. In parallel with our net zero ambition in 2045 and 70% reductions in CO2 emissions goal by 2030, Denmark reached a Tripartite Agreement in 2024 focused on increasing biodiversity also in the marine environment across straights, fjords and coastal waters. The Agreement also established the Marine Nature Fund to help restore marine ecosystems and ensure biodiversity is accounted for during future buildout of subsea infrastructure including offshore wind.

Why Denmark?

Biodiversity & Offshore Wind Buildout

The Tripartite Agreement from 2024 include working towards:

  • Increased biodiversity, including the creation of 21 new national parks, one peri-urban national park, and improvements to the marine environment in Lillebælt and Øresund.
  • Enhanced water quality efforts, with a focus on reducing hypoxia in Danish fjords and coastal waters.

The Marine Nature Fund and Offshore Wind build out:

The Danish government established a Marine Nature Fund in 2024 to focus on restoring the biodiversity of marine ecosystems and ensuring marine biodiversity is accounted for during buildout of subsea infrastructure and in particular future offshore wind.
