Apple’s billion investment in a datacenter in Denmark is now followed up by a new ambitious research agreement with Aarhus University regarding a new research and development partnership within biogas.
When
Under the agreement Apple will over a number of years fund and boost Aarhus University’s research within biogas, including how fuel cells can be used to convert the energy from biogas into electricity. The biogas will be generated from agricultural waste products such as manure and straw, delivered by local farmers.
The research agreement comes after Apple last year announced that the company is building one of the world’s largest datacenters in Foulum close to Viborg, Denmark. The datacenter is the largest foreign green field investment in Denmark to date.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Kristian Jensen is very pleased about the new agreement:
It is an excellent follow-on to Apple’s billion investment in the datacenter in Foulum. The new partnership is a good example that Invest in Denmark’s targeted efforts to attract datacenter investments to Denmark is producing excellent results. It also illustrates that datacenter investors often wish to contribute to research into and the expansion of the renewable energy capacity in Denmark to the benefit of everyone.
