New announcements underline Denmark's position as a leading country for green datacenter investments

Denmark continues to grow as a European digital hub as Google and Facebook announce plans for new green datacenters in the country. As a global frontrunner in the green transition with regulatory stability and transparency, Denmark is one of the most interesting countries to plan future facilities of datacentres with green initiatives.

facebook's and google's new investment plans

Facebook has once again chosen Denmark for a substantial investment. Facebook has signed an agreement to purchase 212 acres of land in Andrup close to the city of Esbjerg in Southwest Jutland with the intention of building a datacentre. In total, the Andrup site corresponds to an astonishing size of 300 football fields.

Likewise, Google has signed an agreement to purchase 120,000m2 in Fredericia in Southeast Jutland. The intention is to extend Google’s datacenter in nearby Taulov. The Taulov site currently operates with 94 percent green power, which Google has decided to set as its  long-term global goal. By 2030, Google wants all of its datacentres to derive from fossil-free power.

We are proud and happy that Google has chosen to get involved in Fredericia. With the purchase of the additional land, Google is buying into more options here in the future, and that is extremely positive. And of course a statement that Google wants to invest in Fredericia.

danmark's huge potential for datacentres

There are several reasons for Denmark’s leading potential as a European digital hub. The political and economic environment is a primary reason owing to the country’s stable and AAA-rated economy. Moreover, established plants will be close to consumers in central Europe and within a stretch of good power opportunities. The availability of large-scale sites at low prices gives datacenter operators the opportunity to establish bigger investment projects that aims to implement environmental friendly datacentres.
