Copenhagen Airport continues to hit one record after another. It has been one of the busiest years ever with the achievement of a new passenger record and the highest number of travel opportunities to date. A contribution to the establishment of Denmark as the gateway to Scandinavia.
When
20.5 million travellers went through the gates at Copenhagen Airport so far this year, setting a new record for Scandinavia’s largest airport. Ten new destinations were added to the route map during the summer, which made the passenger numbers rise.
“New direct flights not only give Danish business and leisure travellers more opportunities to head out into the world, but also play a key role in attracting tourists and investors to Denmark,” says Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airport.
One of the main factors for the passenger growth is the new long-haul intercontinental routes launched earlier this year, with an increasing the passenger numbers of long-haul flights with 9.2 per cent.
Our strategy of expanding the number of long-haul routes is bearing fruit. In the first few months of the year, Cathay Pacific opened a direct route to Hong Kong, Air China to Beijing, and both Norwegian and Royal Jordanian started flying to the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The new direct routes connects the Danish capital closer to both East Asia and the Middle East.
Copenhagen Airport is not only the largest in Scandinavia in terms of passenger numbers, but it is also known for being extremely efficient. This summer, Copenhagen Airport was rewarded most efficient airport in Europe for the 12th time out of 14.
Copenhagen Airport is located only 20 minutes from the city centre with public transportation, which makes both the way to and through the airport short, fast and convenient for business and leisure travellers to get around in Denmark.
The growth in passengers and routes from Copenhagen Airport results in a busy airport, which Copenhagen Airport are in the process of accommodating. They are expanding the airport with several major building projects, including a new pier, increasing 78 gates to 124. EUR 268 million will be invested to realise the projects, and 2018 has been a progressive year so far.
We’ve significantly boosted investments, which are up 58.1% on the same period last year. One of the big construction projects is the brand-new Pier E and an associated new building for passport control. We expect to inaugurate the first phase including new stands and gates next year.
