Unlocking innovation: Moderna chooses Denmark for clinical trials

Moderna is a fast-growing biotech company based in Boston, USA. Founded in 2010 with technology from MIT, Moderna uses the mRNA platform to develop new medicines. Moderna made its breakthrough with the development of one of the first COVID-19 vaccines. In addition to vaccine development, Moderna also focuses on oncology and rare diseases.

When

Over the past years, Invest in Denmark, in close collaboration with Trial Nation, Denmark’s national entry point for companies looking to conduct clinical trials, and Innovation Center Denmark in Boston, has established a close collaboration with Moderna, leading the company to choose Denmark for two vaccine studies within RSV and influenza.

"We chose to place these studies in Denmark due to easy access to patients in clinical research, as well as Denmark's reputation for its top-notch medical studies. The integral role of Invest in Denmark’s collaboration with the non-profit organization Trial Nation is also extremely efficient and helpful."

All the right conditions

Denmark is an increasingly attractive location for businesses that depend on clinical trials. For many years, the Danish government has taken active steps to boost the life science industry by building on the already strong national healthcare system and world-class environment for business and science. This also includes a keen political focus on improving the framework conditions for conducting clinical trials in Denmark.

Continuous optimization of clinical trial processes and procedures, a highly-skilled workforce, and excellent hospitals and researchers make Denmark a very attractive place for international biopharma and medtech companies wanting to conduct clinical research and trials.

I’m delighted that Moderna has chosen Denmark for clinical trials. It is a testament to our competitive biopharma cluster as well as the Danish government’s consistent focus on improving framework conditions for conducting clinical trials and research.
