Shanghai Electric Wind Power locates European Innovation Centre in Denmark
Shanghai Electric Wind Power is the largest manufacturer of offshore wind turbines in China. The company has close collaborations with European partners and suppliers but needed a location for its innovation activities.
Now, the company has decided to establish its European Innovation Centre at Incuba Science Park, Navitas, in the Danish city of Aarhus. The innovation centre will focus on the design of new offshore wind turbines by tapping into Danish expertise within this area.
When planning our European Innovation Center the location in Denmark was the obvious choice. Denmark is one of the major global hubs for development of wind turbine technology, and Aarhus is especially central in the ecosystem. We will here be able to attract experienced engineers and find knowledgeable partners.
The research and development will take place in close collaboration with suppliers, Danish universities and other research institutions.
Joining an already strong wind energy cluster
Shanghai Electric is the latest international wind turbine manufacturer to set up operations in Denmark. The company follows the previous path of Envision Energy, Goldwind and the Indian based company Suzlon, which have also opened research facilities in Denmark.
We are proud to welcome Shanghai Electric to Denmark. The knowledge amongst the Danish workforce is unique along with the vast network of suppliers located in Denmark. I am sure this will benefit Shanghai Electric immensely, while at the same time the new Innovation Center will add additional cutting edge research and collaboration in the wind energy sector in Denmark.
I am pleased that we throughout our long relationship with Shanghai Electric have been able to assist them in taking the decision to establish a European innovation centre in Denmark. Taking into account Denmark’s position as a pioneer in wind power, it is definitely the ideal location to develop, test and manufacture wind turbine technology.
