Dutch health technology company opens regional office in Denmark

The Dutch health technology company Qwiek has opened a regional office in Odense, Denmark, to cement their market presence in Scandinavia while benefiting from the strong life science ecosystem in Denmark. 

When

Pioneering health technology in the elderly care sector since 2013, Qwiek develops audio visual systems to offer relief to patients who are suffering from dementia and other disorders related to ageing.

In its home country of the Netherlands, Qwiek is being used by 50 percent of all care homes, successfully testifying to its quest of bringing innovation to the welfare sector, providing both immense help and resources to caregivers.

This establishment in Denmark will allow Qwiek to work with the Danish healthcare sector and will serve as a starting point for further development in the Nordic region. 

"We considered the best way to expand our operations outside the Netherlands was in the Nordics and ended up opening our Nordic headquarter in Odense in the centre of Denmark. The Danish healthcare system is transparent and open to new innovations and the Danish flexicurity model limits the risks we take as an employer. The country is also of a manageable size (especially compared to Sweden) making it possible to service the whole of the Danish market with a small team. We see Denmark as the perfect starting point for our Nordic expansion."

In addition to the important economic potential that both Denmark and the Nordics offer, several factors motivated Qwiek’s choice.

First of all, a strong and mature Danish social public system which is well organised with transparent processes and an ambitious strategy was a key factor. Qwiek also saw a good opportunity for its solutions being implemented in an environment which is tech-ready and open to innovation.

Denmark’s very fluid business environment was also a favourable element for such a new venture. The fact that setting-up a company is fast, easy and cost competitive allowed Qwiek to have a smooth establishment. The flexible Danish labour market legislation enables Qwiek to be agile and reduce risks in this new Nordic environment.

Finally, Denmark and the Netherlands have a lot of similarities in terms of culture, market and way of doing business. Thanks to this proximity between these two countries, it is often seen as a natural next step for Dutch companies to develop themselves in Denmark and the rest of the Nordic region.
