New Danish research centre in digital technologies will boost education of IT specialists

A new Danish research centre, DIREC, has plans to become an internationally recognized centre that will be able to match the most respected and similar centres in Europe and the US.

Over the next five years, DIREC, or the Centre for Research in Digital Technologies, will expand its capacity in research and education in digital technologies and contribute to Denmark's competitiveness. The centre will ensure the development of new products and solutions based on the latest digital technologies in close collaboration with industry and public organisations.

DIREC hopes that the attention around the centre and its work can help to attract the best researcher’s world-wide to reside at the centre.

A collaboration to boost digital competences in all of Denmark

Officially, DIREC opened 1 October 2020 and is established as part of the Danish national digitization strategy and is mainly sponsored by the Danish Innovation Fund.
 
In the beginning, it will be led by Professor Ole Lehrmann Madsen, who is former CEO of the Alexandra Institute and also chairman of the Council for Digital Experts at the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. According to Ole Lehrmann Madsen, the centre is proof, that in Denmark we can collaborate nationally to lift the digital effort.

DIREC will be a virtual centre that covers the whole of Denmark.
