Foreign companies are an important contribution to the Danish economy and business
According to the report published in 2023, one in every five private sector employees worked for a foreign-owned company in 2021*. This accounts for a substantial workforce of 327,000 full-time employees.
Foreign companies continue to play a pivotal role in the Danish economy, contributing significantly to growth and innovation. They collectively generated a staggering DKK 1,287 billion in revenue, constituting 25% of the private sector’s total turnover.
Comparing Denmark to the broader European landscape, it is interesting to note that in 2020, Denmark exceeded the European Union's average employment rate in foreign-owned companies. Denmark achieved a 20% share, while the EU average was at 16%.
These statistics underscore Denmark's attractiveness to foreign businesses and the vital role that they continue to play in the Danish economy.
