The Danish Energy Technology and Demonstration Program (EUDP) has announced a new call for grant applications for DKK 250 millions

The Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration (EUDP) supports new energy technology that contributes to the Danish government’s goals to reduce CO2 emissions. For 2021, the grant is on total DKK 250 million of which around DKK 100 million are for projects focusing on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) as well as Power-to-X (PtX) technologies.

Next round of applications

THE EUDP (ENERGY TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM)

EUDP supports Danish as well as foreign companies and universities to develop and demonstrate new energy technologies. EUDP can support energy technologies widely including renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency technologies, conversion technologies such as fuel cells and hydrogen, integration of energy systems e.g. storage, more efficient methods for recovery of oil and gas and storage of CO2.

EUDP has again opened up for applications from projects within energy technology. This year, the general fund will be DKK 250 million with DKK 100 million focusing on CCS and PtX technologies. In addition, a grant on DKK 16,5 million focuses on projects within development and demonstration of technologies necessary to process hydrogen to “X” products including capture and filtration of CO2 from waste plants and industry companies as well as production of green ammonia, jet fuel etc.

The deadline is 5 March 2021

Projects supported in 2020

Several of the projects to receive funds in 2020 were about long-term storage of green energy. In the RockStore project, the company Heliac is going to work with a new energy storage technology at Norfos’ waste-to-energy plant in Hørsholm.

From barge to offshore windmill

Another project receiving funding from EUDP in 2020 was ELS. Eltronic Wind Solutions and Force Technology will improve the heavy lifting that take place at sea when installing offshore wind farms.

The grant from EUDP gives us the opportunity to make use of feeder barges – a unique form of barge – for transport of offshore wind turbine components by instillation ships. By doing so, the installation ships will no longer have to return to harbour to load towers, nacelles and wings

Biological Power-to-X

One project was approved under the dedicated Power-to-X fund. Through the InjectMe project, scientists from Aarhus University will demonstrate a system able to transform electricity and CO2 from biogas to bio-methane – so called Power-to-Gas. Furthermore, the project is in collaboration with the Danish company Landia and University of Queensland, Australia.

We are very happy for the support from EUDP and are looking forward to starting the development of biological PtX. By using electricity from sustainable sources and CO2 from biogas plants in the production of bio-methane, we will work with both the conversion of energy and CO2. Bio-methane will have a dual potential; replace fossil natural gas in the gas infrastructure and play a role in the production of green fuel in the transport sector
Michael Vedel Wegener Kofoed Project Director at Department for Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University
