Denmark's Quantum momentum 2025 - A year of Quantum acceleration

2025 marked a defining moment for Denmark’s quantum ambitions. It was the year when an ambitious national strategy, large-scale investments, and deep international collaboration came together, firmly positioning Denmark on the global map as a leading quantum hub.

A strong, united quantum Ecosystem

At the heart of Denmark’s success lies a uniquely collaborative model. Companies, universities, investors, ministries and foundations work in close alignment to strengthen the full quantum value chain from fundamental research and infrastructure to commercialisation and international scale-up.

This collective effort is reflected in a rapidly expanding ecosystem. More than 75 organisations are now actively engaged in the Danish Quantum Community, bringing together start-ups, scale-ups, corporates, investors, research institutions, and public actors around a shared ambition.

In the accompanying video, we take you inside the Danish quantum ecosystem and showcase how companies, foundations, universities and ministries work side by side to turn ambition into action.

World-Leading Initiatives Launched in 2025

In 2025, Denmark launched several landmark initiatives:

55North. The World’s Largest Quantum Fund

In October 2025, Denmark launched 55 North, the world’s largest venture capital fund dedicated exclusively to quantum technologies, headquartered in Copenhagen. The fund opened with a first capital injection of EUR 134 million (DKK 1 billion), with a target fund size of EUR 300 million (DKK 2,2 billion).

55 North is backed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO). Anchored in Denmark’s national strategy, the fund plays a central role in accelerating quantum innovation by investing in promising companies in Denmark, across Europe and globally.

By combining significant capital with deep domain expertise, 55 North helps bridge the gap between research breakthroughs and scalable commercial solutions, enabling quantum companies to grow faster and compete internationally.

QuNorth and Magne. Hosting a world-class quantum computer

Denmark will soon become home to Magne, set to become one of the world’s most powerful commercial quantum computers. The initiative is backed by EIFO and the Novo Nordisk Foundation with an investment of EUR 80 million and aims to secure a world-leading quantum position for the Nordic region.

QuNorth has been established to procure and operate, Magne, a level 2 full-stack quantum computer delivered through a partnership between Atom Computing and Microsoft. QuNorth will give Nordic researchers and companies access to advanced quantum computing capabilities that were previously unavailable in the region.

The initiative will support use-case development across sectors such as life sciences, materials discovery, optimisation and chemistry-driven product development, helping translate quantum capability into real-world impact.

Magne is expected to be operational around the turn of 2026 to 2027. But you can already get involved NOW through the Flagship Quantum Research Program

Who can apply: Researchers, start-ups and/or industry teams based in the Nordic region.

Submission window: 26 January to 12 June 2026 at Quantum Denmark - commercialization hub and landing pad for quantum companies.

Quantum Denmark is a dedicated house and innovation hub offering office space and business support for quantum-based companies from Denmark and abroad. The hub welcomed its first companies in 2025 and is a key initiative in Denmark’s national quantum strategy.

Co-located with the Niels Bohr Institute and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme, Quantum Denmark fosters close collaboration between international quantum start-ups, researchers and other partners. From 2026, the hub will also host a test centre for quantum technologies, featuring state-of-the-art testing and measurement equipment accessible to companies and researchers.

BII Venture Lab program. A Danish Venture Program is now open to global quantum start-ups

In 2025, the BioInnovation Institute (BII) opened applications for international quantum companies to join their Venture Lab Programme. The programme supports early-stage start-ups with business acceleration, scientific development, and founder and team growth.

It targets solutions and products within planetary health, heath tech, therapeutics and quantum technologies, offering access to Denmark’s growing quantum and biotech innovation ecosystem. The goal is to help start-ups bridge the gap between discovery and market readiness in sectors characterised by long development cycles and substantial capital requirements.

Selected teams receive a founder-friendly convertible loan of EUR 500,000, with the potential for a follow-on investment of up to EUR 1.3 million.

The next application deadline is 5 August 2026.

Denmark as Europe’s Quantum Meeting Point

As part of the Danish EU Presidency, Denmark hosted the European Quantum Technologies Conference (EQTC) 2025 in Copenhagen. With 1,200 participants, the conference brought together Europe’s leading researchers, companies, investors, and policymakers, reinforcing Denmark’s role as a leading hub for shaping Europe’s quantum future.

Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond

The momentum continues into 2026 and beyond. In 2026, Denmark will host Q2B, one of the world’s leading global quantum conferences. This creates a unique platform to showcase solutions, connect with international partners and investors, and engage with the full global quantum ecosystem.

The conference will take place in Copenhagen 9-10 September 2026.
