Denmark to build one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers

Denmark has entered into a collaboration with NVIDIA to establish a national centre for AI innovation that will house one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers. The collaboration is led on the Danish side by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO).

Aiming to solve the world’s most pressing challenges

The aim is to expedite research and innovation across various sectors such as healthcare, life sciences, and the green transition, fostering the creation of pioneering solutions to address the world’s most pressing challenges.

Healthcare demands new computing paradigms to meet the need for personalized medicine, next-generation clinics, enhanced quality of care, and breakthroughs in biomedical research to treat diseases. The Novo Nordisk Foundation supercomputer will do just that by enabling researchers to accelerate drug discovery, perform genomics analysis, and enhance the technology used in medical imaging and medical devices.

Open to researchers from Denmark’s public and private sectors

The state-of-the-art supercomputer will help inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators, allowing Denmark to remain a leader in using scientific computation to answer our greatest questions in healthcare, life sciences and the green transition.

Denmark currently has no GPU-accelerated supercomputers and thus, this partnership is a considerable strengthening of the research driven ecosystem. Through the partnership with NVIDIA, the supercomputer will introduce several technologies that will be used in bringing innovation to life.

The supercomputer will be named Gefion and will be in Denmark ready for use later in 2024 – read more about the technical specifications and infrastructure here.

The facility will be open to researchers from Denmark’s public and private sectors.

Invest in Denmark is ready to assist companies looking to become part of the Danish ecosystem

The partnership will provide local access to one of the world’s most advanced supercomputers.

It will attract researchers and companies from around the globe who are interested in leveraging a growing life science cluster supported by a culture of strong collaboration between universities, and public and private players.
