Danish Ports to become frontrunners on green transition and CO2-neutral by 2030
Danish ports have a green vision based on the UNs 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). This means that Danish Ports are focusing on becoming CO2-neutral at the latest by 2030 says the Branch Organization for Danish Ports. The Danish Ports acknowledge that the focus on green transition is both good for business and for the environment.
Four goals have been selected from the UN SDGs, based on the ports’ primary activities and business areas. Thus, they represent the areas of action where ports can contribute the most, and where they can make an additional effort.
“With this vision, the Danish Ports is in the front seat in Europe when it comes to the green transition. Nowhere else has the entire port sector committed itself to set specific goals that it wants to measure itself against and achieve. I think we can be very proud of that”
The Vision
- A zero-emission port
All machinery in the ports use non-fossil fuels by 2025. Danish ports should use 100 % sustainable energy by 2030. Ports are carbon-neutral by 2030. - Supporting the circular economy
By 2030, 90% of port and ship waste should be recycled. - Supporting green Partnerships
By 2025, the ports and port partners share a systematical dialogue concerning sustainable and green development. By 2030, all ports have implemented differentiated tariffs based on ship emissions. Ports can offer a green power supply to docking ships by 2030.
The vision and goals are a natural continuation of Danish Ports’ focus on green solutions. The Danish Ports are already hubs for Denmark´s wind turbine adventure and suppliers of shipping infrastructure. Ports are also increasingly becoming modern industrial clusters, bringing together leading green business areas.
“Danish ports must be world leading in sustainable solutions. We are the green connection between land and sea”
