Weathernews Announces Further Expansion in Denmark

Weathernews Inc. announces further expansion in Denmark with a new business development centre, taking this as a long-term strategic step to enhance their coverage in European market.

In 2012, Weathernews established their first European office in Denmark. Now they have 6 offices in Europe, which is their second global market, following their presence in Asia.

Weathernews Inc. (Head Office: Mihama-ku, Chiba-shi; CEO: Chihito Kusabiraki) was founded in 1986 and is one of the largest weather information companies in the world. They started as a service supporting safe maritime operations aimed at shipping companies and now provide weather information services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to clients across 44 different markets in a total of 50 countries around the world.

With Weathernews’s guiding motto of “wanting to help people in times of crisis,” they continue to take on new challenges with an innovative approach, such as developing their own original radar to pick up torrential rainstorms and sudden strong winds, launching weather satellites to capture views of sea ice in the Arctic Sea, and making use of AI technology to achieve high-accuracy weather forecast.

The Maritime industry in Denmark is increasingly looking to collaborate and apply new innovative technologies. AI, robotics, drones, blockchain and cybersecurity are essential tech fields with an increasingly impact on the maritime industry. The Danish maritime industry is open for cooperation and eager to integrate new technologies.

Invest in Denmark have the know-how and the connections for linking maritime companies with Denmark’s cutting edge tech sector.

Denmark is the world’s 6th largest in terms of operating tonnage and the 13th largest in terms of owned tonnage. This strong and competitive position means that Denmark figures prominently on the maritime world map, which helps pave the way for an increased demand for Danish maritime products and services.

Furthermore, an open environment for investments and for testing new technology provides fertile grounds for start-ups and tech hubs to innovate the future of shipping, maritime products and services.
