Tokyo gas established Presence in Denmark to join development of renewable energy in the Nordics
Tokyo Gas is Japan’s largest gas company, which produces, distributes, and supplies liquefied natural gas. With more than a century of expertise in the gas business, the firm is also engaged in electricity, energy-related and overseas projects.
Throughout the company’s activities, Tokyo Gas has set a green target to reduce emissions in society and aims to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The collaboration between Tokyo Gas and EWII will contribute to de-carbonization in the Nordics by developing and managing renewables via TOWII Renewables. With this being TG Nordic's first investment, TOWII Renewables will continue to look for renewable energy projects and opportunities which can help accelerate the goal of developing 1GW of renewable energy capacity in the Nordics by 2030.
As the first step for the company to join the renewables business in Europe, Takashi Uchida, CEO of Tokyo Gas is happy to have initiated the partnership with EWII.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the renewable business together with EWII, who has been operating in the onshore wind business for many years.”
Global Hub of Wind power technology
Home to some of the best wind power conditions and resources for installation of wind farms in the world, Denmark is known as the global hub of wind power technologies. The Danish government announced its targets of reducing CO2 emissions in Denmark up to 70% by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
Denmark’s leading position in the renewable energy industry along with the major support from the government were ultimately the key factors in Tokyo Gas’ decision in entering the Danish market as the first step of its development of renewables. Tokyo Gas believes that the joint forces with EWII can contribute to de-carbonization of the Nordics by developing and managing renewables as well as being the starting point in expanding the business to other Nordic countries.
“Invest in Denmark is thrilled to have assisted Tokyo Gas in gaining a foothold in Denmark with the establishment of TG Nordic. This investment is a testament to Denmark’s position as a global leader in wind power technologies. I am positive that the opening of TG Nordic is an important step in the development of renewable energy which Denmark certainly can help accelerating.”
Support from Invest in Denmark
Invest in Denmark’s main support in assisting Tokyo Gas’ establishment in Denmark through TG Nordic has been to provide general information such as energy strategy/policy and strengths of Denmark through a range of meetings. It also included organising and completing fact finding missions under complex travel restrictions during COVID-19.
Lastly, IDK provided information of insights and knowledge to the business atmosphere, environment, and lifestyle in Denmark for those employees who would be transferred to Denmark.
