OPA chooses Denmark to expand internationally and opens its first international operation in Copenhagen

Israeli start-up OPA has chosen Denmark for its first launch of international office and operations. The Copenhagen-based operations are set to launch in the beginning of February 2024.

OPA’s vision is to eliminate waste associated with food delivery and takeout, through a high quality replacement product without compromising the value of the food. The decision to go with Denmark for their first international operations is a testament to the favourable conditions offered to start-ups in Denmark. As OPA enters this new market, the aim is to supply the Danes with long sought-for solutions for sustainable, reusable food packaging. Denmark was deemed the ideal point of departure for OPA’s international expansion due to the advanced Danish digital infrastructure, the ease of doing business in Denmark and the far-reaching advancements within sustainability which provide a solid ground for the establishment of OPA outside of its domestic market.

OPA’s business model is powered by an innovative, digital platform that allows consumers to enjoy their meal in reusable containers, which are to be delivered back to the restaurant within a time span of 14 days. In doing so the amount of waste generated per person through takeaway meals is drastically reduced – benefitting consumers, restaurants and the environment alike.

As OPA takes to the Danish market, the company has joined forces with a wide range of top restaurants from different segments and locations, which will soon launch the distribution OPA products. Apart from the variety of partnerships directly with caterers, OPA has also secured a partnership with Wolt – a key player in the Danish takeaway delivery market. OPA and Wolt have a joint campaign in the pipeline, to follow up on the impending Copenhagen launch. As an additional service provided by OPA, they also offer companies the opportunity to allow their employees to return their containers at their offices, further easing the transition to the environmentally friendly solution.

“We are really happy to welcome OPA to Denmark! The challenge of single use packaging from takeout meals is an omnipresent problem leading to much unrecyclable waste, and we are therefore proud to have been able to help a solution provider enter the Danish market. We hope that the many restaurants, deli’s, supermarkets and companies in the Copenhagen area will grasp the opportunity to engage with this new product and service, for the benefit of all”.
