Modern airships made in Denmark - LeviCraft sets out to build the LeviShip in Odense

The German pioneer of aerostatic technology, CargoLifter, has established a subsidiary, LeviCraft, in Odense to produce a group of modern airships for use within tourism and logistics.

The German pioneer of aerostatic technology, CargoLifter, offers solutions on transportation of goods on critical terrain and remote areas by lighter-than-air (LTA) technology, which allows for higher, further and lighter transportation.

Recently, the company has established a subsidiary, LeviCraft, in Odense to produce a group of modern airships for use within tourism and logistics. The airships are aerostatic vehicles with electric propulsion, which makes them energy efficient, quiet and emission-free.

The LeviShip: A sustainable way of transportation for multiple use

The development of LeviShip is based on the original large-scale project of the CL 160 (a cargo airship with a 160-ton payload) and on several smaller balloon systems developed over the past decades for disaster relief and logistics.

At first, LeviCraft targets established markets like flightseeing and advertisement with the smaller LeviShip Pax model carrying up to 19 passengers as proof-of-concept. Afterwards, LeviCraft is also aiming to scale up with the LeviCargo airship with 10-50 tons of payload. This ambitious endeavour is broken down into several steps, which is essential for funding.

This represents a unique and profitable opportunity for a future strategic partner to collaborate on the development of LeviShip in Denmark.

„The market for airships is global and mostly untapped with various projects underway and is partly backed up by different governments. We believe that this technology can thrive under the favourable conditions in Denmark and the country‘s history of shipbuilding, which is complementing existing means of transport, while leading the path to zero emissions.

We find a supportive government, attractive lead users, highly educated specialists and open-minded investors – all key elements to revive this oldest form of human flight. Furthermore, the national hub for development of drones or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in Odense is a unique setting with partners and infrastructure in place for future development of autonomous cargo airships“

ABOUt THE LEVISHIP

The minimalistic ellipsoid shape of the rigid lifting body is international patent pending with helium as lifting gas for solar-electric passenger transport and hydrogen as lifting gas and fuel for hybrid-electric cargo airships.

From certification and modular production over operation, ground handling and maintenance to perspective of crew and especially passengers, all aspects have been considered.

The LeviShip embodies the credo of “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) in its purest form.
