Innovation Thrives: Phillips-Medisize's Strategic Expansion in Denmark's Life Sciences Hub
The global contract development and manufacturing organisation Phillips-Medisize is expanding its facilities in Denmark and serves as a Centre of Excellence for end-2-end product development. The company acquired the Danish company Medicom Innovation Partners in 2016 and is experiencing an increase in global demand for advanced medical devices.
Growth strategy
Phillips-Medisize works across software, mechanics, electronics, and design to produce and co-develop advanced medical devices to a wide range of large international companies. The medical devices span from autoinjectors and pens, wearable injection pumps as well as diagnostic tests and continuous glucose monitoring systems.
As part of Phillips-Medisize’s growth strategy, the company is expanding its production facilities and test laboratories with 500m2 (5400ft2) in the city of Struer. The new facilities, situated in the northern part of Denmark, was taken in use in the second half of 2023. Phillips-Medisize in Denmark has also been appointed to develop the company’s own pen injector and electronic autoinjector platforms.
“Our largest customers are primarily outside Denmark and we see an increasing demand for development and production of advanced medical devices. With more products to be launched, we need more space – therefore, we are now expanding in Struer. Thanks to our highly qualified engineers, a lot of the products are developed in Denmark, and subsequently launched on the global market.”
The danish labour Market
Phillips-Medisize counts more than 200 employees in Denmark and the decision to expand the production facilities in Denmark is in large part due to the highly skilled workforce.“We have become a recognized international company that has won several awards for our innovative medical devices because we are able to keep the patient in focus throughout the development process. At the same time, our highly skilled engineers have been at the forefront of developing cutting–edge technologies and brought user friendly delivery solutions to the market which improves and makes lives easier for people living with chronic diseases."
“The decision to expand in Denmark showcases that Denmark has fostered one of the most attractive life science clusters in the world. Denmark offers some of the best framework conditions for research and development and provides easy access to a skilled labour market of highly motivated and productive employees who play an active role in problem solving. These factors have been crucial to the decision by Philips-Medisize to establish a Centre of Excellence and expand its production facilities in Denmark.”
