How Design Companies Use Blockchain to Increase Transparency for Their Customers
As the demand for transparency increases, so does the complexity of managing global value chains, as many products are produced, purchased, consumed and recycled daily
A project titled " Blockchain in Business and Danish Design” aims to uncover how blockchain technology can support the increased demands for efficiency, transparency
and a credible global supply chain in business and specifically in the design industry.
The project is funded by the Danish Industry Foundation and is a collaboration between Copenhagen Business School, the Lifestyle & Design Cluster and The Confederation of Danish Industry.
One of the project participants is Danish shoemaker company Roccamore, who uses blockchain technology to track and trace the manufacturing history of their shoes.
The information is shared with customers, enabling them to trace the origins of their shoes, from sourcing of the leather, including animal welfare data, to the tanning process and the manufacturing location of the shoes.
"To us, the use of blockchain is super interesting, and personally I think it's really cool. We are proud to work with some of the best suppliers in the leather industry, and when our customers get full product transparency, I hope they see the full value in our shoes"
The project has identified the following three use-cases with large potential
LOYALTY PROGRAMS
Blockchain technology is well suited for earning and sharing loyalty points. Companies can offer customers cryptocurrency instead of traditional loyalty points, in addition to other benefits defined by the company.
AUTHENTICITY & PRODUCT SAFETY
In connection with Internet of Things, products are trackable from production throughout transportation and to the point of sale. The customer can easily verify whether the product is genuine, freshly made and produced under proper conditions, as well as whether it has been transported sustainably.
WARRANTY OVERVIEW
Blockchain enables digital receipts, making it easier for both the seller and the buyer to keep track of his or her purchasing history.
