Green logistics organisation expands to Denmark to consolidate market position

In order to provide substance to their international ambition, the Dutch logistics company, Greenway Logistics, has decided to establish an office in Herning, Denmark. This decision will also further strengthen the company’s position in Scandinavia.
These years, the Danish fashion and textile industry is experiencing growth with a five percent increase in exports in the first quarter of 2017. The industry thus welcomes new and sustainable logistics solutions, which makes Greenway Logistics and Denmark a perfect match.

Greenway Logistics is specialised in reducing costs and maximising sustainability when it comes to transportation within the textile and fashion industry. Already well established in the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium, Denmark will be the fourth country for the logistics company to be based.

Growing business opportunities

Within the past few years, the Nordic countries, with Denmark taking the lead, have worked towards promoting a sustainable fashion and textile production model well supported by the world’s largest event on sustainability in fashion, Copenhagen Fashion Summit, held by the Danish Fashion Institute in Copenhagen every year.

On this basis, the challenge of ever-shorter product life cycles combined with sustainable supply chain demands creates a growing number of business opportunities for foreign companies, being able to offer innovative logistics solutions.

Due to an increase in business and operations in Denmark, we decided to open an office in Herning. The Danish fashion and lifestyle branches can benefit greatly from the bundling of volumes and the new logistic concepts that Greenway Logistics has already developed.

Denmark is the perfect hub

According to Søren Birkelund Pedersen, Special Advisor at Invest in Denmark, the match between the massive growth in the fashion and textile industry in Denmark and the solutions, Greenway Logistics provides, is obvious:

“Denmark is a geographically natural logistics hub to Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea Region and Northern Europe – with next day delivery access to approximately 500 million consumers. The Danish fashion industry’s total revenue amounts to nearly EUR 5.6 billion and this number is growing. With a 25% increase in e-commerce annually, logistics will only become even more important for the retail sector. Denmark is already known for its specialised and high value services within logistics, where a flexible and agile company like Greenway Logistics demonstrates a good match in the link between retail and logistics,” he says.

Tapping in to valuable local knowledge communities

Not only Greenway Logistics benefit from the establishment of an office in Herning, Denmark. Back in 2015, the company started collaborating with the trade association Dansk Fashion and Textile and in 2016 Greenway Logistics entered into a partnership with the Danish branch organisation for sports suppliers Sportsbranchen Danmark. According to Willem-Jan Drost, partnerships are crucial for the success of an establishment:

“In many ways, the business environment in Denmark is similar to what we have experienced in Holland and Sweden, which is where our offices are located so far. However, with powerful trade associations behind us we expect to roll out our services in a much faster way than usual,” he explains.
