atNorth expands its Nordic footprint with green data centre DEN01

atNorth, a leading Nordic data centre company, is set to expand its presence in Denmark with the introduction of the cutting-edge DEN01 data centre in the fourth quarter of 2024. The state-of-the-art facility will be connected to Vestforbrænding, offering sustainable heat to potentially thousands of homes in the Ballerup area.

A Strategic Partnership for Sustainability

Taking advantage of Denmark's cool climate and strategic proximity to the European market, DEN01 aims to operate at a capacity of up to 30 MW, efficiently catering to high-performance workloads. In collaboration with Invest in Denmark, atNorth has strategically positioned their expansion near Vestforbrænding, a waste and energy company currently providing district heating to a significant local population. This future partnership allows for the integration of waste heat recovery technology, contributing excess heat to thousands of homes in Ballerup. A commitment that both aligns with Denmark’s and the company’s dedication to sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.

“We work purposefully and continuously to utilize excess heat from, for example, data centres and have them integrated into our district heating network. We are therefore looking forward to the collaboration with atNorth to efficiently utilize excess heat from the data centre to heat local homes. We are happy to be part of the project.”
Steen Neuchs Vedel Director of Vestforbrænding

With DEN01 set to launch in Q4 2024, Denmark is moving even faster towards actively integrating data centres as active contributors to green energy and district heating systems, paving the way for data centres to become future key players in green energy efforts.
